Description
Your audio might be wrong… and it’s not your mic’s fault. Most of us creators mix up gain and volume and it’s the #1 reason our sound turns out muddy, or clipping.
Here’s the truth:
Gain = controls how much sound your mic captures at the source.
Volume = only changes playback loudness.
Since we love cameras, let's approach it this way:
📷 Gain is your exposure.
💻 Volume is your brightness adjustment in post.
Get this wrong, and you’ll either end up with distorted audio… or noisy, weak sound. Get it right, and your voiceover is clean, clear, and pro-ready.
Sweet spot: Set gain so your peaks hit -12 to -6 dB while recording, then adjust volume later.
Save this for later, and your next recording will thank you. Follow along for more audio tips.
