The threaded-insert press is designed to help with the installation of threaded inserts into 3D printed parts. Threaded inserts can make 3D printed parts stronger and can last longer. For small screws they can also be easier to use than trying to design fine threads in 3D printed parts.

The press uses a soldering iron fitted with a special tip designed to fit the inserts.
Before using the press you must design a hole for the threaded insert in your 3D print. Each insert is different but the diameter of the hole should be just big enough for the edge of the insert to fit. The texture part of the insert should not fit into the hole as the goal is to melt the plastic around it to get a tight fit.
Turn the soldering iron on to approximately 410° F This is the approximate melting temperature of PLA. Use the arrow buttons to change the temperature up and down. Remember the metal tip of the iron will be very hot.

Place the 3D-printed part below the iron and set the insert into the 3D printed part. There is usually a slightly tapered end to the insert to help you place it in the part.

Press gently but firmly until the insert sits flush with the surface of the 3D printed part. Pull up the iron and your done. If the thread isn't quite flush you can press down again.
